All these proverbs seem very fitting at the moment...with that stupid Expelled movie debuting this weekend.
I used to watch his "Win Ben Stien's Money" show on comedy central. He's a very likeable celebrity, but clearly he does not represent science on this one.
Intelligent design starts out with the assumption that a creator exists, and then, [gasp!], it concludes that a creator exists. It doesn't make any kind of useful predictions, and has a clear history of claims being refuted without any new kinds of evidence or theories coming to light. That is not science by any means, it's dogma, it's straight lying to children dogma. Furthermore, it keeps on repeating rhetoric that is blatantly false.
Consider this, ID claims that it is impossible for anything of lower order to go to a higher order without a designer. Oh really, a snowflake or a storm-cloud formation requires a designer!? Does the formation of the ever drifting sand dunes or volcanic islands require a designer!? Does the formation of the word "HI" in your alphabet soup or the word "Hello" in a game of Boggle require a designer!? The answer is clearly and unambiguously no!

Oh crap, maybe I just gave Ben Stien too much benefit of the doubt on this. I think his film is more of a right-wing political propaganda machine than a celebrity anomaly. What's all this crap about fighting battles!? Science is not about fighting battles, it's about doing research discovering the truth. Maybe if intelligent designers spent more time with a microscope and less time in Hollywood they could save themselves from resorting to violence or other means of irrational behavior.
